SciGirls is a PBS KIDS series, website, and educational initiative that targets girls ages 8 to 13. It addresses a singular but powerful goal: to inspire, enable and maximize STEM learning and participation, encouraging greater interest in STEM careers.
Each SciGirls half-hour episode follows a different group of enthusiastic girls and their mentor as they collaborate, communicate, engineer and investigate. They’re accompanied by two animated characters —Izzie and her best friend Jake— who tie the series together with their own ongoing STEM adventures. And because today’s girls largely live online, the SciGirls website on pbskids.org is totally integrated with the television series.
With the goal of engaging Latina girls in STEM learning, TPT will launch this three-year media, outreach and research project. TPT will create six new half-hour episodes of SciGirls – produced entirely in Spanish – that will follow teams of Hispanic girls and Latina STEM professional mentors as they investigate engaging STEM topics. Latina SciGirls will air nationally on PBS and Univisión and be streamed online at PBSKids.org, and its educational outreach initiatives will reach children, educators and families nationwide.
“The series brims with strong messages about conflict resolution, teamwork, and respect for differences, making it an exceptional choice for this age group.” -Common Sense Media
